(See here (http://www.livejournal.com/community/sms_to_lj/4777.html) for more information on finding the international format of your phone number)
You must also setup a PIN, you will need this when posting using the paid account SMS gateway.

Who runs this & how does it work?
Dan Lane (lj-user: dan_lane (http://www.livejournal.com/users/dan_lane/info)) runs the SMS To Livejournal gateway, it is completly non-profit, in fact it actually costs money to run this (there is a paypal donation button here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/sms_to_lj/info/)).
Various parts of the gateway are written in BASH, Perl and PHP, the X11 SMS Gateway (+447890716820) uses a home-made GSM interface connected to a Debian Linux machine on a single 1.5Mbit internet connection.
The IP side of the SMS To Livejournal Gateway is hosted in the UK and US by LoHost Hosting (http://www.lohost.com), who have been incredibly accommodating.
