ADSL Checker

Unfortunately as of 14/08/03 this checker is no longer active.

I have been arguing on the phone and in E-Mails with Tony Matthews, BT Wholesale's Broadband Line Qualification Manager about the legality of the ADSL Checker (BT claim it breaches the Data Protection Act).

I've tried to reason with them, I've even suggested they offer a similar service on bt.com's authenticated 'viewmybill' site, which would allow the verified owner of the number to view the details for their line. BT weren't interested in listening to what people might find useful and refused to create such a page on the grounds that it would cost too much to develop (!?!!).

I recently recieved a letter from BT Wholesale's legal dept informing me that I no longer have consent to access any BT ADSL checker.

So it looks like I am left no option than to stop the checker, BT are still leaking the same data that allegedly breaks the Data Protection Act, so others can easily create similar checkers and I hope will continue to do so.
